Chess Assistant 6.0 provides complete playing program facilities with the built-in playing engines. CA 6.0 includes:
- Chess Tiger 13.0 - The latest version of the program by the French programmer Christophe Théron is about 40 ELO points stronger than its predecessor, Chess Tiger 12.0 which was built into CA 5.0;
in the endgame and blitz games Tiger 13.0 is even much stronger.
- Tiger Gambit. Another Christophe Theron's creation. Unlike Tiger 13.0, which plays in a solid fashion, Tiger Gambit has an attractive attacking style. It is tuned to sacrifice material for an initiative;
so far this feature has been very uncommon for a playing engine.
- Tiger 12.0
. In December 1999 it was rated No. 1 amongst all programs according to the SSDF (Swedish computer rating list).
- Crafty 18.3
. This program by Robert Hyatt is one of the strongest and most popular freeware engines.
- Dragon
. This engine is obviously weaker than the programs listed above, however you may dislike merciless monsters that beat you time after time, and Dragon gives you a chance to get your revenge.
Dragon's algorithms differ greatly from all other engines, thus sometimes it finds combinations that the other engines miss, at the same time it may overlook very simple moves. All in all, many users say that
playing against Dragon is amusing.
